The "harmoMPI" project is a joint project from Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) Berlin and Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau (WHZ).
Project members short CVs:
Marcus Löffler
Marcus Löffler was born in Werdau, a small town in Saxony. After completing his education in industrial mechanics, he studied physical engineering (Bachelor’s degree) and computer science, specializing in biomedical technology, at the University of Applied Sciences Zwickau. In 2016, he received his M.Eng. in the field of nanotechnology, also at University of Applied Sciences Zwickau. Since then, he has been working as a research assistant at the Institute of Physical Engineering and Computer Science.
Bruno Kluwe
Bruno Kluwe was born in Berlin, Germany in 1998. In 2022 he received his bachelor’s degree in medical engineering from the University of Lübeck, Germany. He finished his M.Sc in 2024 also at University of Lübeck. During his master's thesis, he started working in the field of MPI by developing pH-responsive magnetic hydrogels at Fraunhofer IMTE. After working at Fraunhofer IMTE as research assistant in the magnetic methods group, he started in April 2025 at PTB Berlin as PhD researcher in the harmoMPI Project.
Silvio Dutz
Prof. Silvio Dutz was born in 1972 in Neuhaus, Germany. In 2002, he graduated from Jena University of Applied Sciences with a degree in biomedical engineering (Dipl.-Ing). In 2007, he received his doctorate in materials science from the University Bergakademie Freiberg with a thesis on the development of magnetic nanoparticles for hyperthermia. After a postdoctoral stay at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, in 2009/2010, he founded his own research group on the development and application of magnetic nanoparticles for medicine at the Technische Universität Ilmenau and became a professor of biomedical engineering in 2017 there. He is now a professor of biomedical engineering at Zwickau University of Applied Sciences since 2023. Prof. Dutz works on MPI since its beginning time in the 2010s.
Frank Wiekhorst
Dr. rer. nat. Frank Wiekhorst was born in 1969 in Wilster (Germany), after his study of physics, diploma thesis and PhD at University of Hamburg, he first made a short excursion into marine science. Since 2004 he has been working at PTB in many third party funded projects focusing on measurement techniques for magnetic nanoparticles to be used in biomedical applications. In 2015 he became head of the newly established PTB working group “Metrology for Magnetic Nanoparticles” with presently 10 scientists working in the areas of characterization, quantification, magnetic particle imaging, and standardization of magnetic nanoparticles.
